Ukraine's former Defense Minister Anatoliy Grytsenko announced the official beginning of his campaign today, after submitting his documents to the Central Election Commission. He compared himself to a private, who volunteered to go to war. Grytsenko's war is the battle against «the state ruled by corrupt officials, criminals and scoundrels».

Rather than commenting on matters pertaining to Ukraine myself, today I think I will let Ukraine's President, Victor Yushchenko do all the talking. Very recently, - on September 30th, in fact, President Yushchenko held an outdoor press conference in Kyiv. I think that forever more it will become known as the Green Clearing press conference, or the "прес-конференція на зеленій галявині".

Ukraine has only had two confirmed cases of swine flu so far, but experts warn that flu cannot be stopped by national borders.

The H1N1 virus epidemic spreading across the globe. Having claimed more than 4, 200 lives already, the virus may be on its way to Ukraine.

Concerning the recent editorial by Taras Kuzio (Canadian academic experts on Ukraine and NATO, ePOSHTA Oct.18) suggesting that I am an opponent of Ukraine joining the NATO alliance:

The role of an academic is to report and analyze what one reads and sees, not to be an advocate of a particular position or personality. Once an academic begins to take sides or support particular courses of action, then he/she is no longer an academic.

Apparently Russia was offended that it was not included in the Allied commemoration of D-Day last month. La Russophobe empathetically agrees with Russia http://larussophobe.wordpress.com/2009/06/20/editorial-forgetting-russia/: Their behavior in World War II should not have been forgotten. It was so loathsome, vile and contemptible that it must be made to live in infamy right along with the cowardly Japanese sneak attack on Pearl Harbor.

To all supporters of M. Lennikov. Just a few words from someone who knew this guy personally in the 80s. He was a very active Komsomol leader of the Oriental Faculty of Far East University in Vladivostok where he studied the Japanese language in late 70s early 80s. No wonder he was invited to join KGB as an officer upon his graduation from the Uni. His representations that he was made to join the service is absolute nonsense, any Russian would confirm you that.

The following Members of Parliament have signed the appeal to allow Mikhail Lennikov the failed refugee applicant now seeking sanctuary in an East Vancouver church in defiance of a deportation order over his past employment by the KGB. Something to keep in mind at election time.
