In order to provide our membership with service at the highest professional level, Selfreliance Ukrainian American Federal Credit Union employees, committee members and Board members attend various seminars and training session each year. One of the largest of these is hosted by the National Association of Federal Credit Unions (NAFCU), and this year the NAFCU convention took place at Chicago’s Navy Pier July 21-24th.

During the four-day event, Selfreliance Board and Committee members, as well as individuals from our staff, attended seminars ranging from social media networking to credit card services, compliance, membership growth and other topics.

Selfreliance Board members discussed the regulatory environment with National Credit Union Association (NCUA) Chair Debbie Matz and board members Michael Fryzel and Gigi Hyland. NCUA is the Governmental agency responsible for regulating and insuring federal credit unions.

The Chicago conference included an opening address by former Chicago Bears Coach Mike Ditka, a member of the National Football League (NFL) Hall of Fame, whose father is of Ukrainian ancestry. Convention delegates were treated to several Ukrainian folk dances by members of Chicago’s Hromovytsia dance group. Selfreliance helped facilitate the group’s appearance at the Convention.
