I agree, the law is straightforward, and there is a reason those laws are in place. It is all too easy to get taken in by stories intended to elicit compassion and sympathy, especially those expertly spun by parties with vested interests (like "compassionate" opposition politicians). The public doesn't have all the facts, and even if we did, we do not collectively possess the skill or the ability to assess them and apply them to the laws of the land. That is what the federal courts and immigration officials are paid to do. We would be wise to not undermine them in doing their job. It is not an easy one, especially when well-intended but misguided citizens lobby politicians to interfere.
